Four magicians are brought together by an unknown person to create a spectacular magic show and, it seems, pull off an audacious bank robbery at the same time. It’s an intriguing setup to Louis Leterrier’s entertaining caper-film Now You See Me.
We are treated to a blockbuster cast, with Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Woody Harrelson as the magicians, Mark Ruffalo, Mélanie Laurent and Common as the officers investigating them as well as we Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman as the magicians’ backer and staunchest critic, respectively.
And, it has to be said, everyone seems to be having a great time in this film. For the most part, Now You See Me has a light, entertaining tone to it. The first half is certainly better than the second and as long you don’t take the story too seriously, it really is a lot of fun. It’s really a cinematic adventure ride and, for me, the most enjoyable of Leterrier’s films.
