Foxy Brown

I’m not hugely familiar with blaxploitation films, but I was a little underwhlemed by Jack Hill’s Foxy Brown when I finally cauht up with it. There’s no denying that Pam Grier in her prime is a sight to behold onscreen and more than holds her own opposite an incredible array of nasty guys – not least Starsky & Hutch‘s Antonio Vargas as her vile brother, Link – but perhaps the likes of Tarantino had built up my expectations too high. Very much a film of its time, little of its original iconic stature remains 40 years down the road.
