In our latest podcast, James made a point of highlighting R100 as one of his favourite films from Fantastic Fest 2013. Upon seeing the film was on release here in Tokyo and screening with subtitles I felt almost obligated to see it.
I’m thankful I did because R100 is a brave, unique and outrageous romp of a film. It’s a story about love, family, devotion and commitment. But, it’s also a story about passion, sexuality and the “thrill of getting caught.” And, it’s a wonderfully “meta” film that comments upon itself in an inventive and delightful way.
Writer, director and actor Hitoshi Matsumoto has crafted a very funny, surprising and unique film. I’m sure this will become a cult classic, but I would encourage anyone looking for something out of the ordinary to take a look at R100, one of the most original films I have seen this year.
