Some grumbled about Antoine Fuqua’s straight-faced approach to this “Die Hard in The White House” wannabe, but I mostly enjoyed the way it got back to basics, without the need for knowing self-parody that so many action films feel oblige to include these days. Gerard Butler plays it dead straight as a former Secret Service man called back into the fray when Rick Yune’s North Korean terrorists takeover 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and he must rescue Prez Aaron Eckhart while also tracking down his son, hiding somewhere in the vents. Brimming with brutal headshots, headstabbings and a few moments of shocking torture, OHF takes this back to the good old days in fine style, and delivers plenty of Friday night fun.
