Incredibly convoluted but surprisingly entertaining buddy action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington as undercover agents from rival agencies, both out to crack a drug cartel who are initially unaware that the other is also undercover. Baltasar Kormakur keeps things fast and breezy, while the tone is gleefully bloody and bawdy in a throwback 80s kind of way. Paula Patton and Bill Paxton, among others, provide welcome support, but it’s really the fast tongued, antagonistic banter between the two leads that make the film special.
