More prep work for an appearance on the Auteur Cast show meant revisiting one of the most ridiculous of all the Bond films. Roger Moore teams up with Lois Chiles’ CIA/NASA operative Holly Goodhead to foil an evil plot by Hugo Drax (a rather wonderful Michael Lonsdale) to poison the Earth from space and re-populate the planet with his own master race. Jaws (Richard Kiel) returns, but even he can’t help improve the quality of this hastily assembled cash-in on the post-Star Wars sci-fi craze of the late 1970s. Like all Bond films, Moonraker has its moments, but the film seems intent on undermining every decent action beat with slapstick humour and embarrassing innuendo.
