Roger Corman adapted a number of Edgar Allan Poe stories for the big screen, and frequently colloborated with horror icon Vincent Price. The Fall of the House of Usher proved to be the first of both such collaborations, and is a delightfully gothic affair that achieves much on a very meagre budget. Corman took a big gamble, combining the budgets of two proposed black & white features to experment with Eastman Color film and to shoot in glorious Cnemascope. The result is a gorgeous looking film that serves to complement strong performances – especially from Price – and a classic story of a haunted house like no other. Arrow Video’s new Blu-ray release of the film not only provides a glorious HD presentation of the film, but comes with a bounty of supplementary material too.
